GREENWOOD, S.C. – Junior Sawyer Gray led the UNCP women's volleyball team slamming down 13 kills as the Lady Braves fell in three straight sets, 25-23, 25-20 and 25-21 to Lander on Saturday afternoon at the Horne Arena.
Gray notched a .226 hitting percentage for the Lady Braves (5-11, 0-3 PBC) as UNCP totaled 38 kills against the Bearcats (6-7, 2-0). Freshman Ashtin Truesdale tallied four service aces, picking up three aces in the second set. Ashlyn Rebok posted a team-high 34 assists, bringing her season total to 390 assists. Defensively, Marissa Baker collected 13 digs, while Truesdale and Leslie Millard added ten digs apiece.
Lander garnered 41 kills with a .280 hitting percentage, and was led by Kaitlyn Harrison with 11 kills. Tarryn Angermeier and Hannah Dederick supplied an additional 10 kills apiece for the Bearcats. Jessica Register dished out 39 of Lander's 41 assists in the match. The Bearcats played with a solid defense out-blocking UNCP 7-1. Jessica Register and Madison Kubal each had 13 digs for a team-best.
UNCP will look to regroup and rebound at home as the Lady Braves host conference rival Armstrong Atlantic (14-3, 2-0) on Friday October 5 at 2 p.m. at the English E. Jones Center.
