Hoek, Hanson Named PBC Players Of The Week

Box Score

AUGUSTA, Ga. – After helping UNCP start the season with a 2-0-0 record, senior Sean Hoek and junior Ryan Hanson have been named Peach Belt Conference Player and Goalkeeper of the Week, respectively, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.

Hoek, a native of Arkansas, scored three goals in UNCP's first two games, including the lone score in a 1-0 upset win over No. 24 Anderson on Saturday.  The midfielder began the season with two goals in a 3-0 win over Mount Olive, scoring on half of his shots, while two days later against Anderson, he scored the lone goal of the game less than six minutes after the opening kick, heading home a cross into the box.  The Braves' co-captain is currently tied for third in the PBC with three goals on the season.

Hanson, a Cary native, began a season as well as a keeper can by playing 180 shutout minutes as his team went 2-0.  The netminder made four saves in the season opener against Mount Olive, and then turned in a gem with three saves as UNCP downed Anderson, 1-0. Anderson took 10 shots, five of which on goal. Hansen is the only PBC keeper to play all 180 minutes of his team's first two games and not allow a goal.

The Braves will return to action on September 4 when the squad plays host to region rival Wingate (2-0-0) in a 7 p.m. matchup at Varsity Grounds.
