PEMBROKE – Two second half goals gave Georgia College the two-nil Peach Belt Conference victory over the home standing UNC Pembroke women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon at Varsity Grounds.
 
The Bobcats (6-5-1, 3-3-1 PBC) used an aggressive offensive attack, outshooting the Lady Braves (5-6-0, 3-4-0 PBC) 22-4, including 10 shots on goal. Ashley Veilleux scored her seventh goal of the season putting Georgia College ahead of UNCP late in the second half, and shortly after that Rebekah Autry made the score 2-0 with her second goal of the season. Carolina Sanchez took a team-high three shots in the setback. UNCP led in corner kicks with a total of seven, while Georgia College had five.

UNCP goalkeeper Britney Bennett recorded eight saves in her 85 minutes in goal. The senior has played over 1000 minutes this season, totaling 64 saves. Sophomore Julia Nytorp spent 4:59 minutes between the pipes, marking her debut in goal for the Black and Gold.

"We're going to have a next man up mentality this year. We just need to finish out the seas, as long as we can make it to the conference tournament there's hope," said UNCP head coach Lars Andersson. "Until the final whistle blows of the conference tournament, our goal is still going to be to make to the NCAA Tournament."

The visitors got the scoring going in the 71st minute, as Veilleux found the back of the net on an assist from Autry. Less than five minutes later, the Bobcats struck again, as Autry scored the second goal on a pass from Marissa Medina, solidifying Georgia College's victory.  

The first frame saw little action as the Lady Braves were able to fire off just three shots. Georgia College took 13 first-half shots, registering seven shots on goal.
 
The Lady Braves will take on Tusculum College (5-3-3) in Pembroke on Monday in a non-conference match. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m. at Varsity Grounds in Pembroke.
