Box Score ANDERSON, S.C. – Junior Sam Miles opened up the contest for the visiting UNC Pembroke men's soccer team's with its only goal of the game in the 67th minute, but a pair of late goals by Anderson's Andre Carle was enough to hold off UNCP's comeback attempt in securing a 2-1 victory on Wednesday afternoon at Trojan Stadium.
The loss marked UNCP's (6-5-0) fourth in five games, while also tying up the series at one game apiece with Anderson (8-2-2). Miles made his way behind the defensive line and was lobbed a pass from Reece Rooney and Rico Laitinen at the 66:26 mark to put the Black and Gold on the board and collect his fourth goal of the season.
Less than 18 minutes later, Carle brought the game to 1-1 with his ninth goal of the season as he beat out the defense and goalkeeper Ryan Hanson, and placed the ball in the back of the net on the assist by Martin Brain.
The tied game moved into double overtime and Anderson utilized the final minute to cap off the game with game-winning goal at the 109:07 mark. A corner kick set up the set play for Carle and following a serve by Alex Delpy and he pick up his 10th goal resulting from a rebound in the box.
Miles claimed a team-best six shots, while six other Braves each posted one shot to combine for 12 shots compared to Anderson's 18 shots as Carle had a game-high eight shots.
Both teams recorded five shots each in the first 45 minutes, while the Trojans logged an 8-3 shot advantage in the second half. Again Anderson outshot UNCP 5-4 in both overtime periods.
Hanson registered five saves, while Bo Haug of Anderson grabbed one save. Three yellow cards were given – two to the Trojans and one to the Braves – all in the second half, but Anderson took 18 of the 29 fouls awarded.
UNCP will be back in action on Saturday in Dahlonega, Ga., as the Braves visit North Georgia (3-11, 1-4 PBC) for a Peach Belt Conference battle at 7:30 p.m.
