DAHLONGEGA, Ga.
– The UNC Pembroke women's soccer team fought through 110 minutes of scoreless Peach Belt Conference soccer en route to a 0-0 draw with nationally-ranked North Georgia on Saturday night at the UNG Soccer Complex.

The match marked the first tie in the 2013 campaign for the Lady Braves (6-7-1, 3-4-1 PBC), and the first tie in the all-time series with North Georgia (9-3-1, 4-2-1). UNCP remains on top in the all-time against the Nighthawks, holding a 6-2-1 advantage.

"Pinch me I must be dreaming. If you would have told me on Saturday when Britney Bennett suffered a career-ending injury, knowing we do not have another keeper on the roster, that we would play three regionally- ranked teams and would finish the week 1-1-1 with a field player in goal, I would have told you that you were crazy," said UNCP head coach Lars Andersson. "We played with tremendous heart and passion today. This is a good sign for the remainder of this season, and the future of this team."

North Georgia finished the match outshooting the Black and Gold, 21-4, while the Nighthawks defense prevented UNCP from taking any shots in the extra 20 minutes. Of the total four shots the Lady Braves attempted in the match, two of them went on goal.

Claire Tracy played the entire match between the posts to pick up her first career shutout. Tracy collected four saves in her 110:00 minutes in goal. The UNCP backline of Michelle Brown, Jasmine Jordan, Julie Fisher and Savanna Stiles kept North Georgia's Kelly Penston, the leading scorer in the PBC, to just five shots and one shot on goal.

"We pulled out Claire and asked her to play in goal, and she is getting better every game. Today she made a couple of really good saves and our system of play which is based on defending and counter attacking was successful."

Amber Watkins led UNCP with two shots, while Rae-Shawna Campbell and Carolina Sanchez each added one shot. Caroline Wallace led all players with six shots for the Nighthawks, including two shots on goal.

Neither team was able to get much going offensively in the first half, with North Georgia entering the intermission with a 9-1 advantage in shots and a 2-1 edge in corner kicks. The second frame was not too different, with the Nighthawks taking six shots compared to three from the Black and Gold.

The Nighthawks took all six of the shots and the only two corner kicks through both overtime periods. North Georgia's best scoring opportunity came in the first extra period when Penston opened the shooting in the 94th minute, but Tracy stopped the shot with ease.

Kayla Croom registered the final shot of the game in the 106th minute as her shot in the second overtime sailed wide.

"We are going through a growing up fast experience that is just making us better. It's scary to be a part of but it's also a fantastic journey," said Andersson.

UNCP will return home on Tuesday for a regional contest with Mount Olive (3-9-2) at Varsity Grounds, first kick is slated for 4 p.m.
