Box Score

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Niall McCabe scored four goals to help deliver No. 3 Young Harris a 5-2 victory over the visiting UNC Pembroke men's soccer team in league play on Saturday afternoon at the Francis Wood Wilson Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The loss marked the second-straight for UNCP (7-7-1, 3-4-1 PBC) and the first time since the 2007 season that the squad has given up five goals in a regular season game. The nationally-ranked Mountain Lions (13-1-0, 7-0-0) remained undefeated in conference as they posted five goals over a span of 57 minutes.

McCabe punched the opening goal of the contest after a turnover at the top of the box in the fourth minute for his sixth goal of the season. Sophomore James Casserly turned in his fourth goal of the season at the 19:44 mark with a rebounded deflection from 10 yards out as the kick bounced off the left post to tie the contest at one goal apiece heading into the half.

The first 15 minutes of the second half brought about the final five goals including two consecutive by MaCabe to open the half. Junior Sam Miles used an unassisted goal at the 55:05 mark that hit off the side post to land inside the goal and bring the Black and Gold to within one score. Young Harris closed out the contest with a goal each by Alex Wyper and McCabe. Khurram Shazad led the game with two assists, while Wyper added one.

Senior Ryan Hanson spent all 90 minutes in between the posts as he game up all five goals, but managed seven saves in the process. Young Harris netminder Pedro Ozi finished the contest with two saves and two goals allowed.

The Mountain Lions were led by Wyper with five shots as McCabe claimed four of the total 16 shots including 11 in the second half, while the Black and Gold took eight shots with Miles notching three shots and Kevin Vigebo posting two.

The squads combined for 28 fouls with Young Harris totaling 17, while UNCP was awarded two yellow cards compared to the Mountain Lions' single penalty.

The Braves will compete in their last home game and regular season contest of the season on Wednesday as the Black and Gold hosts PBC opponent USC Aiken (3-9-2, 0-5-1 PBC) at Varsity Grounds at 7:30 p.m. Admission to all 2013 home soccer matches is free.
