MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The UNC Pembroke women's basketball had four players finish with double-digit points, but it was not enough as the Tuskegee Tigerettes used a 35-point performance from Kajuanna Rivers to defeat the Lady Braves, 84-73, on Saturday afternoon in the final game of the Stair South Classic at the Centennial Center on the campus of Georgia College.

The Lady Braves (5-4) suffered their second loss in the last three games, while Tuskegee (4-5) stretched its win-streak to four games. The win marked the first for the Tigerettes in the all-time series, which currently sits a 2-1 in favor of the Black and Gold.

"I felt like we played very poorly defensively in the first half, but part of it was they shot the ball very well. Rivers played a really great game but we gave her a lot of open looks. We made some runs, but we looked inconsistent offensively and we missed too many free throws," said UNCP head coach John Haskins

UNCP relied heavily on its bench, which turned in 45 points, including 21 points from Jazmine Kemp, who was named to the Stair South Classic All-Tournament Team. Freshmen Jasmine Huntley and Katelyn Mitchell came off the bench to chip in 11 points apiece to the losing effort. Despite the setback, Kierra Haney broke her career-best rebounding mark by grabbing 18 boards. Haney added 16 points to her day, recording her fourth double-double of the season.

Rivers' 35 points came off of 11-of-19 (57.8 percent) shooting from the floor, including a 70 percent (7-of-10) performance from 3-point territory. Marie McAbee contributed to the win with a double-double of 11 points and 13 rebounds, while Chelsea Azore used 10 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double of her own. Rounding out Tuskegee's double-figures scoring was Alannah Vincent with another 10 points.

Both teams tallied 41 rebounds, but UNCP won the advantage in the paint, scoring 34 points in the paint compared to 24 from the Tigerettes. The contest saw just one tie, as Tuskegee led throughout the entire game. Tuskegee saw its largest lead in the second half at the 6:22 mark, as the Tigerettes pulled ahead of the Lady Braves by 20, 73-53.

The Lady Braves will take a break for the holidays and return to the court in 2014 as UNCP Rings in the New Year on January 2nd against Georgia College (8-0, 2-0 PBC). Tip is set for 5:30 p.m. in the front half of a basketball double header inside of the English E. Jones Center.
