Box Score PEMBROKE – Amelia Partin turned in 20 points, while Jazmine Kemp added a double-double with 13 rebounds and 11 points, as the UNCP women's basketball teamed defeated Peach Belt Conference opponent North Georgia, 66-62, on Saturday afternoon inside of the English E. Jones Center.
The triumph snapped a three-game losing streak, as the Lady Braves (11-13, 5-10 PBC) improve to 8-6 all-time against North Georgia (9-14, 7-9). UNCP has now won four-straight games against the Saints.
"We made plays when we needed to, but I thought no matter if we won or lost our girls played hard the whole game, and just competed at a high level," said UNCP head coach John Haskins.
Partin put up 14 second half points, finishing with a team-high 20 points, and Kemp recorded her third double-double of the season with 13 boards and points. The Lady Braves collected 10 steals, and scored 12 points off of 18 North Georgia turnovers. The Black and Gold outscored its opponent 26-16 in the paint, and received 26 points from its bench.
Mimi Hill put up a game-best 32 points for the Saint, and completed her double-double with 13 rebounds. Stephanie Huffman also scored in double-figures for North Georgia, totaling 10 points. The Saints held a major advantage over UNCP at the free throw line, shooting 85.7 (18-21) from the line, compared to just 50 percent (9-18) from the Lady Braves.
The Lady Braves came out of the intermission with a five-point advantage over the Saints and an opening triple from Courtney Bolton quickly put the score at 36-28. North Georgia pulled ahead at 44-41 after a 14-5 run sparked by seven straight points from Hill. The back-and-forth battle saw nine lead changes and six ties. Partin closed out the game for UNCP with five straight points, giving the Lady Braves the 66-62 victory.
A trey from Partin gave UNCP an early lead that it held onto for the majority of the opening half. The Lady Brave stayed in control until back-to-back good free throws from Hill put the Saints ahead, 26-24. Jasmine Hairston help create an 11-2 UNCP run to give the Lady Braves a 31-28 lead going into halftime.
UNCP will head south to Savannah, Ga., for a PBC matchup on Wednesday against Armstrong Atlantic (9-13, 4-11), with tip set for 5:30 p.m. inside of the Alumni Arena.
