Flagler Hands Lady Braves Second Straight PBC East Loss, 71-46

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The UNCP women's basketball team shot just 9 percent from 3 point territory as home-standing Flagler turned away the Lady Braves, 71-46 in Peach Belt Conference action on Saturday afternoon inside of the Flagler Gymnasium.

The Lady Braves (10-12, 4-9 PBC) have now lost two straight in league play and have dropped to sixth in the PBC East. Flagler (10-9, 8-6) snapped a five-game losing streak against UNCP and improves to 2-5 in the all-time series with the Black and Gold.

Wayne Mack led UNCP finishing with 14 points, while Jasmine Hairston chipped in 10 points for the Black and Gold. Mack has scored in double-digits in three consecutive games for the Lady Braves.  Amelia Partin paced the defense pulling down a team-best 11 rebounds. 

Flagler was led by the double-double performance of Shelbi Lindsey, including game-highs in rebounding and points with 13 and 18, respectively. Williesha Spencer added another double-figure scoring performance for the Lady Saints with 13 points. Flagler saw its biggest advantage on defense, as the Lady Saints out-rebounded UNCP, 55-36. 

The Lady Saints entered the second half with a double-digit lead over UNCP and did not let up in the final 20 minutes of play. The Lady Braves were held to just 25.6 percent shooting from the floor, while Flagler shot just over 45 percent in the field. The Lady Saints led by as much as 27 points late in the game and would close out the final three minutes on an 8-0 run to earn the 71-46 decision.

Treva Mason drained a jumper less than 15 seconds into the game that would spark an 11-0 opening run by the Lady Saints. UNCP took consecutive trips to the line with under two minutes remaining and made good on four straight free throw shots to cut the deficit to 32-19. Rodnecia Brown made a layup with six seconds left on the clock to give the Lady Saints a 36-23 advantage heading into intermission.

UNCP will be back in action on Thursday as the Lady Braves come home to host PBC rival Young Harris (12-9, 6-8) at 5:30 p.m. in the English E. Jones Center.
