UNCP Rallies Late To Stun Saints, Clinch Series

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Jake Hanson's RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the sixth gave Flagler a commanding 5-2 lead, but 15th-ranked UNCP rallied for nine unanswered runs, including seven in the ninth inning, to post a series-clinching 11-5 win over the Saints on Monday afternoon at Drysdale Field.

The victory helped the Braves (22-7, 11-6 PBC) clinch their third-straight Peach Belt Conference series, while also giving the visitors their ninth win in the last 11 outings. It was the seventh loss in the last nine outings for Flagler (12-16, 5-12).

Jordan Edgerton homered twice and drove in three runs on a 3-for-4 outing for the Braves, who also got a 4-for-5, 3-RBI performance from Brett Huffman as well. Drew Alford homered for the second-straight game to highlight a 2-for-4 hitting line for the Black & Gold. Hanson singled three times and doubled once on a 4-for-5 day at the plate for Flagler, while Tyler Vanover tripled and scored twice on a 2-for-3 performance.

Dale Innes (3-1) struck out three and surrendered just a pair of hits over three innings of relief from the mound to pick up the win for UNCP. Flagler reliever Tyler Ward saddled the tough-luck loss for the Saints after yielding six runs (one earned) on five hits in a brief two-out appearance in the ninth.

Flagler posted a pair of runs in the bottom of the first and, twice, sustained 3-run leads, including the 5-2 cushion after Hanson's run-scoring knock in the sixth. The Braves climbed to within a run on Edgerton's two-run home run in the seventh and looked to have all the pieces to tie the game up in the eighth, but could not capitalize on Drew Cole's leadoff double in the frame.

Edgerton tied the game with a leadoff homer in the ninth and opened the flood gates for the Braves who sent 11 batters to the plate and capitalized on four errors by the hosts in the frame to magnify the damage.
