Box Score DAHLONEGA, Ga. – North Georgia rallied for a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning to forge an early 3-1 lead, but visiting and 17th-ranked UNCP rallied back with four unanswered runs behind a strong relief showing from Dale Innes to finish off a weekend sweep with a 5-3 win over the Saints on Saturday afternoon.
The victory was the fourth-straight win for the Braves (26-8, 14-7 PBC) who have now won 11 of its last 13 Peach Belt Conference outings as well. North Georgia (10-21, 3-12) has now been swept by PBC foes on three consecutive weekends this month.
Jordan Edgerton doubled and drove in a pair of runs on a 2-for-5 outing for the Braves, while Max Gagnon walked once and drove in two runs on a 2-for-3 hitting line. Zade Denton singled twice and scored three times on a 2-for-4 day at the plate, while Ben Schmucker turned in a 2-for-5 day as well.
Kenny Bellevance (2 RBI) and Andrew Gordon both turned in 2-for-4 outings to pace the hosts.
Right-hander Dale Innes (4-1) inherited a pair of runners and a 3-1 deficit in the third, but still managed to pick up the win after allowed just one hit and a trio of walks in 6-2/3 innings of relief for the Black & Gold. He also struck out six. Reliever Brandon Agar (4-4) took the loss for North Georgia after yielding three runs (one earned) on seven hits in 2-1/3 innings from the mound.
North Georgia used a leadoff triple and an infield single in the bottom of the first to grab a quick 1-0 lead, but UNCP used a two-out single by Edgerton in the top of the third to knot things back up. Consecutive RBI singles by Tremayne Toorie and Bellevance would hand the lead back to the hosts, but the Braves scored lone runs from the fifth through the eighth innings to put the game away.
UNCP will open up a four-game home stand on Wednesday when the Braves host Coker (22-11) in the second half of a season home-and-home series. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Sammy Cox Field.
