PEMBROKE – Code Black matched a 6-year-old school record with eight sacks and limited visiting Wingate to just 127 yards of total offense to help the No. 16 UNC Pembroke football team move to 4-0 for the first time in school history with a 38-10 rout of the Bulldogs on Saturday at Grace P. Johnson Stadium.

The victory also gave the Braves (4-0) their second-straight win over Wingate (1-2) – the first time the Black & Gold has strung together consecutive wins in the series. It was the fewest total yards allowed by a UNCP defense since limiting Fayetteville State to just 88 yards on Sept. 4, 2010, and the fewest rushing yards (-18) since that home outing as well.

Redshirt freshman Rontonio Stanley ran for 101 yards and a fourth quarter score on 11 carries to highlight the offense for UNCP, while Luke Charles threw for three or more touchdowns for the third-straight game despite a modest 19-of-36, 188-yard effort with a pair of picks. Ben Decelle, Jason Perry and Te'Vell Williams all registered touchdown catches for the hosts as well.

Junior Matt Turner became just the third player in school history to grab three or more sacks in a game and also recorded a pass break-up to spearhead a defensive unit that finished the outing with 15 tackles for loss (-58 yards). Darcus Elliott also returned an interception 49 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter as well.

Charles found Williams on a 15-yard pass down the far sideline to give the Braves a 7-0 lead late in the first quarter, and Elliott padded the lead out to 14-0 just more than two minutes later when he caught a deflection off of a failed pass attempt from WU signal caller Robbie Nallenweg and raced untouched into the north end zone. Charles's 19-yard scoring strike to Perry with nine minutes left in the second quarter gave the hosts a 21-0 advantage heading into halftime.

Patrick Smith's 40-yard field goal put Wingate on the board after a long drive in the third quarter, but the Braves went on to score three more touchdowns on the day, including a game-sealing 5-yard scoring run by Stanley just more than two minutes into the final period.

The Braves will return to action again on Oct. 12 when they make the short trip up U.S. 74 to battle NCAA Division I Football Championship Series rival Charlotte (3-2). Kickoff is set for noon at McColl-Richardson Field.
