Basketball Squads Return Home To Host Lander On Wednesday

PEMBROKE
 – Ready to return home after a three-game road stand, the UNC Pembroke men's and women's basketball teams will play host to Peach Belt Conference divisional foe Lander in a mid-week doubleheader on Wednesday in the English E. Jones Center. The women's game is set for 5:30 p.m. with the men to follow at approximately 7:30 p.m.

Admission prices are $5 for adults and $2 for children 18 years of age and younger. UNCP students, as well as UNCP faculty and staff, are admitted free with a valid Braves Card. Fans not able to make the trip to Pembroke can follow the game via a live video stream, as well as live statistics, at the official Internet home for UNCP Athletics, UNCPBraves.com.

WOMEN'S GAME NOTABLES:
• The Lady Braves look to snap a five-game losing streak after falling to Columbus State and Georgia Southwestern last weekend. UNCP lost to Georgia Southwestern, 80-59, before dropping a 78-55 decision at Columbus State.
• Jazmine Kemp (#20) paces the offense, averaging 12.6 points per game, while Kierra Haney (#33) is averaging a double-double with 10.8 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. 
• Leading the Lady Braves' perimeter effort is Kamille Horne (#25) and Katelyn Mitchell (#32), both shooting over 30 percent from behind the arc. Mitchell is shooting 45.9 percent (17-for-37), which ranks third in the conference.
• Kayla West (#32) and Alexis Armstrong (#24) lead the way for Lander, averaging 13.8 points and 11.5 points per game, respectively. Armstrong also pulls down 9.9 rebounds per game for the Bearcats' defense.
• Wednesday will be the 45th matchup between these two teams. Lander will bring a 26-18 all-time advantage into the contest, including a two-game winning streak after sweeping the series last season.

MEN'S GAME NOTABLES:
 On Sunday, junior Griffin Pittman (#11) knocked down a pair of crucial foul shots with one second left in regulation to tie up the game following a technical foul on Columbus State, but the Cougars capitalized on five fouls by the Braves in overtime to steal an 87-79 victory in the Lumpkin Center.
• The Braves fell in their third-straight contest of the season with the trio of losses being in league play, but started the season with an 8-0 record.
 Quamain Rose (#23) scored a team-high 22 points and snatched up four steals, while Brandon Winford (#35) logged a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor. Pittman tallied 17 points and assisted the Braves who shot 41.2 percent from the field and 80.0 percent from the charity stripe on the afternoon, including a 2-for-6 clip in the extra period. 
• Four Braves control double-figure scoring with Rose leading the team with 16.8 points per game, while Winford pulling down 7.9 rebounds per game and ranks fourth in the PBC in field goal shooting with 59.8 percent.
• Lander guard Jareal Smith (#23) leads the Bearcats with an average 15.5 points per game as he shots 60.0 percent from the field which ranks him third in the PBC, while center Dermaine Smith (#35) pulls down 7.4 boards per game.
• Lander and UNCP meet for 47th time with the Bearcats controlling the all-time series, 26-20, against the Braves, but UNCP holds a three-game winning streak heading into the series including the most recent victory this season in Greenwood, S.C.
