PEMBROKE - Kelsey Terry came off the bench to notch his first double-double of the season and lead visiting Clayton State to an 81-75 victory over the UNC Pembroke men's basketball team on Saturday afternoon in the English E. Jones Center.
The setback marked the fifth-straight loss for UNCP (11-7, 2-6 PBC) who also had its two-game series winning streak snapped in the process as well. Clayton State (6-9, 2-6) has now won two of its last three contests.
Brandon Winford matched a career-high with 19 points and finished one rebound shy of a double-double for the second-straight game to pace the Braves, who also got 17 points from Quamain Rose. Griffin Pittman tallied 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting for the Black & Gold as well, while Ben Jacobs finished the outing with 13 points and a trio of blocks.
"They played well and better that we did," said UNCP head coach Ben Miller. "They coached better than I did and it's a group effort."
Terry matched a game-high with 19 points and pulled down a season-best 11 rebounds for the Lakers, while Charles Shedrick keyed a 19-point outing with a perfect 7-for-7 clip from the charity stripe. Sirdarius Henry added 14 points for the Lakers as well.
Clayton State came out on the better end of a 44-30 mark in the rebounding column and took 13 more shots (70) than the Braves (57). Terry also fueled a 33-9 advantage for the Lakers in bench scoring.
The Braves will look to reverse their fortune on Monday when they suit up to host No. 18 Montevallo (13-2, 6-2) in a 3:30 p.m. contest in the English E. Jones Center.
