Box Score SAVANNAH, Ga. – Sophomore Quamain Rose tallied 36 points throughout his 30 minutes of action on the floor to notch a career-high in scoring including 19 points in the first half to assist the UNC Pembroke men's basketball team in defeating Armstrong Atlantic, 109-87, on Thursday evening in Peach Belt Conference play in Alumni Arena.
The triumph helped the Braves (12-8, 3-7 PBC) snap a six-game slide, while also helping UNCP improve to 20-45 against the Pirates (6-11, 3-7) since it made the transition to NCAA Division II prior to the 1992-93 season. The setback kept Armstrong winless over its last three games, as well as halting a home win streak of two games.
Rose went 15-of-22 from the field en route to his career night - the second-straight game that a UNCP player has scored 36 or more points in Alumni Arena. Former all-region standout Shahmel Brackett posted 37 points in Savannah in February.
Alex Bradley and Ben Jacobs each registered 13 points and freshman Keysheen Hinton also logged double-digit points with 11 for UNCP. Bradley led the team with seven assists, while big man Chris Lindsay carried a team-best six rebounds. The Black and Gold finished the contest shooting 54.7 percent from the field, 46.7 percent from the 3-point line and going 20-of-26 from the charity stripe.
Armstrong's Hichem Benayad-Cherif put up 24 points during the contest, while Emmanuel Tiluscar added 15 points. Kenny Bellinger II, Kyle Callanan and Eric Eversley posted 12 points apiece with Callanan holding a game-high nine assists and Eversley going a rebound shy of a double-double with nine rebounds.
The Braves outscored the Pirates in each half despite allowing Armstrong to take the opening lead. UNCP took a three-point advantage on an arc shot by Rose. Armstrong tried to hold off UNCP's offense, but Hinton put the Black and Gold up for the remainder of the contest on a layup at the 10:25 mark in the first half.
UNCP forced Armstrong to turn the ball over 18 times while committing just 10 of their own, but were out-rebounded 40-38 including an 18-13 deficit on the offensive glass.
The Braves will return to Pembroke for a three-game home stand beginning with No. 25 GRU Augusta (14-3, 7-1) on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 3:30 p.m. in the English E. Jones Center.
