Box Score MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Junior netminder Janae Aiken stopped eight shots en route to her fourth shutout of the season and the UNC Pembroke women's soccer team used a 51st minute goal from Rae-Shawna Campbell to slip by Georgia College, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon at Bobcats Field.
The win helped the Braves (8-3-1, 5-2-0 PBC) stay unbeaten (5-0-1) in six matches away from Pembroke this season, while also handing the Black & Gold its third-straight victory. It was the sixth loss in the last seven outings for Georgia College (3-8-1, 1-6-0) who slipped to 4-6-2 all-time against UNCP.
Campbell netted her team-leading seventh goal of the season to provide the game's only score, while Courtney Crump and Michelle Hernandez both recorded assists. It was the fourth time this season that Aiken has registered eight or more saves in a game.
"Today was just another example of our team's grit and determination," said UNCP head coach Lars Andersson. "Road wins are a must for any team that wants to contend for a title in the Peach Belt Conference. I am proud of the girls."
Georgia College put up six of the game's first seven shots, but neither team was able to get off the mark in the opening half. The Bobcats got the first look of the second half on a 50th minute (49:13) strike by Jordan Harman, but it was the visitors that scratched the scoreboard first on Campbell's shot from close range.
UNCP will close out a four-game road trip on Tuesday when it makes the short trip north to battle region rival Mount Olive (4-6-1) in a 6 p.m. contest at Amon Field.
