PEMBROKE – Led by the powerful foot of senior Sam Miles, the UNC Pembroke men's soccer team extended its winning-streak to three games as Miles delivered the long goal in the 55th minute to send the Braves ahead of North Georgia in a 1-0 victory at Varsity Grounds in Peach Belt Conference action on Saturday evening.

Following a deadlock in the first half with each team only notching four shots, Miles came out of the half and used a quick cross pass from across the box by fellow senior Kevin Vigebo for a header on the left side to give UNCP (5-4-3, 3-2-2 PBC) the lead. Strong defense halted the North Georgia's (3-9-1, 2-4-0) effort to get on the board as keeper Kenneth Perkinson picked up two saves in his 90 minutes of action between the posts for his fifth clean sheet of the season.

"The guys have earned it from being 0-3-0 and to this point now 5-4-3 and with one loss in the last nine games it's a tremendous effort from the guys," said UNCP head coach Phil Hindson. "The confidence level is high now, but I don't think in the first half we played particularly well tonight, but like I told the guys their standards have been so high that unfortunately you are not going to play your best every game, but the second half was much better and the confidence is very high at the moment."

In the game that saw more fouls than shots, UNCP used the second stanza to put up eight shots behind the foot of Miles with a game-high six shots, four of which were on goal, while freshman Nathan Legge posted two shots and four other Braves claimed one apiece.

North Georgia was led by Alex Martinez with a trio of shots, while Victor Ohlin concluded his time between the pipes with three saves and one goal allowed. UNCP controlled all five corner kicks and tallied 14 fouls compared to 11 by the Night Hawks.

The Braves will return to action on Tuesday in a 7 p.m. kickoff with Erskine (6-5-2) in regional competition in Due West, S.C.
