Box Score PEMBROKE – Rae-Shawna Campbell scored twice in the second half behind another impressive defensive effort and the UNC Pembroke women's soccer team pushed its unbeaten streak out to six games with a 2-0 shutout of visiting Young Harris on Saturday afternoon at Varsity Grounds.
The triumph helped the Braves (10-3-2, 6-2-1 PBC) reach the 10-win plateau for the ninth time in the last 13 years and push its record in October out to 5-1-1. It was the second-straight loss for Young Harris (5-10-0, 2-8-0) who fell to 0-4-0 all-time in the series with the Black & Gold.
It was the sixth career multi-goal game for Campbell who registered her ninth and 10th scores of the season in the win. Courtney Crump and Amber Watkins each registered assists, while Crump tallied a game-best eight shots, including a 67th minute penalty kick attempt. Carly Rich turned in a team-best three shots for the Mountain Lions.
Reining NSCAA National Player of the Week Janae Aiken stopped all five shots on goal by the visitors en route to grabbing her fifth shutout of the season. Arielle Charles made seven saves in a losing effort for Young Harris.
A 0-0 deadlock at the break, Campbell redirected a 52nd minute (51:09) direct kick by Crump into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead, and then converted on a close-range shot in the 66th minute to cap the scoring on the day. After being taken down in the penalty area on a potential scoring opportunity, Crump nearly put the hosts up by a trio of goals midway through the second period, but her penalty kick attempt was stuffed by Charles.
The Braves will close out the road portion of its 2014 regular season schedule on Wednesday then they head to Aiken, S.C., to take on USC Aiken (6-7-2, 4-4-1) in the front half of a 5 p.m. doubleheader.
