Football Shuts Out Limestone In Season Finale

Box Score

GAFFNEY, S.C. – The UNC Pembroke football team produced a season-best 424 offensive yards and used four field goals from Lumberton native Connor Haskins to key a 26-0 rout of Limestone on Saturday afternoon in the season finale for both teams at Gaffney High School's The Reservation.

The triumph snapped a seven-game losing streak for UNCP (2-8) who had not tasted victory since a 16-14 win over Fayetteville State in mid-September. It was the fifth-straight loss for the Saints (2-9) who wrapped up their first season of intercollegiate football with the loss as well.

Rontonio Stanley accounted for 141 yards of total offense (80 rushing, 61 receiving) to lead the way for the UNCP offense which finished the game with its most rushing yards (195) since a 38-10 victory over Wingate on Sept. 28, 2013. Seth Owen threw for 168 yards and a first quarter score on 11-of-20 passing for the Braves as well. Haskins converted on 4-of-5 field goal attempts on the day, including a 40-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.

Code Black limited Limestone to just 160 yards of offense on the day, including just 15 on the ground (18 carries), and forced three turnovers to key its first shutout of the season. Ray Baker, Dominique Bridges and Tirek Holloway all recorded interceptions for the visitors. Senior Mat Turner registered a sack to move into a tie atop the program's all-time sacks list.

UNCP capped an 11-play, 51-yard drive on the game's opening possession with a 31-yard field goal from Haskins, and then pushed the lead out to 10-0 seven minutes later when Owen found Isbell on a 36-yard scoring toss. A 22-yard field goal by Haskins just less than a minute into the second period would give the Braves a 13-0 advantage heading into the locker rooms.

Haskins would add a field goal in each of the final two quarters to pad the lead out to 19-0, and Tamari White capped the scoring on the day with a 14-yard scamper midway through the fourth quarter.

In addition to forcing four turnovers on the day, the UNCP defense limited the Saints to six plays or less on nine of their 12 possessions on the day. Limestone mustered just 56 yards in the second half.
