Fayetteville State Too Much For Women's Basketball

FAYETTEVILLE – The visiting UNC Pembroke women's basketball team trailed by just three points at the half, but Fayetteville State used 32.7 shooting from the field along with capitalizing on 19 UNCP turnovers to clinch the 54-43 win over the Braves on Wednesday evening in the Capel Arena.

The loss marked the first of the season for the Braves (0-1) and snapped a four-game winning streak in the series with the Broncos (2-1). Seniors Kamille Horne and Kierra Haney led the squad with a shared team-best eight points, while Jazmine Kemp chipped in seven. Haney led the effort on the board with nine as the team out-rebounded Fayetteville State 38-37.

The Broncos had three players tally double-digit scoring as Shaquanza Manning and Doreen Richardson logged 15 and 12 points, respectively, while Deja Middleton captured the only double-double of the evening with 11 points and 10 rebounds including eight on the defensive boards.

The Braves knocked in four three-pointers and grabbed 15 offensive rebounds, but the Broncos nailed 17 free throws on UNCP's 21 combined fouls and claimed 16 points on 19 UNCP turnovers.

The Braves will continue on the road with a noon tipoff against Mount Olive (2-1) on Saturday inside the Kornegay Arena.
