PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke men's basketball team scored 27 points off of 18 turnovers and used an unforgiving defense to key an 82-65 victory over visiting Allen on Monday evening in the English E. Jones Center.

The triumph marked the fifth-straight victory for the Braves (5-0) who stayed unbeaten in the three-game-old series with the Yellowjackets. Allen (0-7) remained winless on the still-young season, including three setbacks to NCAA Division II opponents.

Ben Jacobs came off the bench to match a career high with 20 points and 10 rebounds to cash in on his seventh career double-double for the Braves, who also got 14 points, six rebounds, six steals and four blocks from freshman Brandon Watts. Brandon Winford registered 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting for the Black & Gold as well.

Emaray Johnson tallied a team-best 15 points for the Yellowjackets. Derrick McCord chipped in a dozen points, while Mark Jones came off the bench to score 11.

The Yellowjackets stayed within single digits of UNCP for the first seven minutes of the second half, but Griffin Pittman connected on the back end of a two-shot foul with 11:50 left to play and ignited the hosts on a 10-2 run to help them pull away for good. The Braves led by as much as 21 points, 82-61, on Winford's tip-in with 2:27 to play.

William McDuffie pulled Allen to within two points, 23-21, at the 7:39 mark in the first half, but Winford was key in a 12-3 over the next four minutes that inevitably gave the hosts a 35-24 advantage on a tip-in by Jacobs with 3:19 left before the intermission. The Braves eventually lugged a 44-35 lead into the locker rooms.

UNCP will close out a four-game home stand on Monday when it suits up to battle U.S. 74 rival Wingate (4-0) in the English E. Jones Center. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.
