PEMBROKE – Rae-Shawna Campbell scored a pair of goals to help support another outstanding defensive effort and the UNC Pembroke women's soccer team advanced through to the Peach Belt Conference Tournament semifinals for the fourth time in the last seven years with a 2-0 shutout of visiting Lander on Tuesday evening.
UNCP (11-4-3) will now head to Evans, Ga., for the PBC Tournament Final Four where it will battle PBC Regular Season Champion and seventh-ranked Columbus State (17-0-1) for the second time in seven days. The Cougars were a 2-0 winner over the Braves in the regular season finale for both teams on Friday at Varsity Grounds.
It was the second loss in the last three outings for Lander (8-3-4) who dropped to 7-8-3 all-time against the Braves, including a 1-3 mark against the Black & Gold in the PBC Tournament.
Campbell, who netted 10 goals en route to PBC Freshman of the Year accolades in 2012, registered her career-best 11th and 12th goals in the outing, while Amber Watkins tallied her team-leading ninth and 10th assists of the campaign. Courtney Crump recorded an assist for the hosts as well. Janae Aiken grabbed a trio of saves and posted her seventh shutout of the season for the Black & Gold.

A tight game through the first 30 minutes of action, Campbell made good on a close-range header inside the penalty area on a quality service from Watkins to give the hosts the lead for good with just less than nine minutes left before the break. Campbell made it look easy in the 81st minute (80:07) when she took a pass from Watkins and found herself in open space before burying a shot past Lyle.
