MURFREESBORO – Using four players with double-digit scoring, Chowan pulled ahead from the visiting UNC Pembroke women's basketball team in the first half and shot 39.3 percent from the field to capture the 69-48 win over the Braves on Monday evening inside the Helms Center.

The Black and Gold (1-6) suffered its fifth-straight loss, while the Hawks (2-6) knocked off UNCP's two-game winning streak in the series between the two schools.

Sophomore Jasmine Huntley controlled a team-best 14 points as she was 7-for-10 from the foul line with both Jazmine Kemp and Kierra Haney tallying nine points. Sophomore Katelyn Mitchell pulled down eight boards as Mary Robinson and Phoenicia Lawson grabbed seven rebounds each.

Despite allowing Chowan to take a 5-0 lead to start the game, Huntley tied up the score at the 16:58 mark with a layup and a 3-pointer, but the Hawks extended their lead to 10 points with eight minutes remaining before in the half. Within the next two minutes, UNCP utilized a 9-2 run to trail by three points, however Chowan reversed the momentum an grabbed the next 10 of 14 points scored to take a nine-point lead at the half.

In the second stanza, UNCP put up the first points, but trailed by 23 points with three minutes left in the contest. Chowan collected 20 points off UNCP's 22 turnovers and an additional 19 second chance points.

Chowan's Alisha Mobley drained a game-high 20 points, while Jordan Payne chipped in 13 and both Chantel Roberts and Rachel Gostomski added 10 to assist the team in going 24-for-61 from the field. In the second half, the Hawks posted a 48.1 shooting percentage from the field.

The Braves will lift the lid on a five-game home stand with a 5:30 p.m. Peach Belt Conference doubleheader against Columbus State (10-0, 1-0 PBC) on Thursday evening inside the English E. Jones Center. Admission into the game will be $1 as a part of the game-day promotions.
