Women's Basketball Hosts St. Andrews On New Year's Eve

PEMBROKE – Returning home for the last time in the 2014 year and helping to celebrate New Year's Eve, the UNC Pembroke women's basketball team will play host to St. Andrews in a 1 p.m. match up inside the English E. Jones Center on Wednesday.

WOMEN'S GAME NOTABLES:
• Despite senior Kierra Haney controlling the game's only double-double, the UNC Pembroke women's basketball team suffered a 64-46 Peach Belt Conference loss to visiting Georgia College on December 20 inside the English E. Jones Center.

• Haney closed out the contest with a team-high 14 points and 10 rebounds, including six on the offensive boards, while fellow senior Jazmine Kemp picked up 10 points to inch herself to within 23 points of entering into UNCP's 1000-Point Club. Both Avae' Hardy and Kamille Horne drained six points and Hardy controlled a team-best five assists. 

• Currently, Kemp holds a team-best 9.4 points per game, while Haney averages 8.6 points per game and also controls a team-high 8.6 boards per game with Katelyn Mitchell and Kemp following close behind with 5.7 and 5.4, respectively. As a team, the Braves shoot 31.6 percent from the field and continue to out-rebound opponents.

• St. Andrews enters into the matchup on a two-game winning streak, with its most-recent wins against Methodist and Columbia International, and carry a 4-1 record in the month of December. With its most recent victory, the Knights captured the most wins in one season since the 2007 team won 20 and qualified for the NCAA Tournament. Currently, Tyesha McLean (10.1) averages double-digit points per game, while Juliette Love adds 9.8 points per game and leads the team with 7.9 rebounds per game. As a team, the squad shoots 35.2 percent from the field and 62.7 percent from the charity stripe.

• UNCP and St. Andrews will meet for the 33rd time today in a series that has been controlled by Braves with a 28-4 advantage in the series including a seven-game winning streak. Last season, Jonissa Monley earned her first collegiate double-double with career- and game-highs of 21 points and 17 rebounds to assist UNCP in the 73-46 rout of St. Andrews in Laurinburg.
