The visiting UNC Pembroke women's basketball team opened up Peach Belt Conference action on Saturday afternoon and struggled against Lander as the Bearcats held the Braves to four points throughout the first 13 minutes of the game to take the 68-41 victory.

The Braves (1-5, 0-1 PBC) fell in their fourth-straight loss, while Lander (6-2, 1-0) extended its winning-streak to six games.

Senior Jazmine Kemp led the Black and Gold with 10 points as she was 5-for-8 from the field, while sophomore Jasmine Huntley was 6-for-7 from the charity stripe with one field goal to total eight points.

UNCP grappled with 3-of-28 shooting in the first half, but snatched nine free-throws to trail Lander 27-15 going into the half. In the second stanza, UNCP improved to 45.8 percent shooting from the field and clinched 26 points, but the squad was unable to overcome the offensive charge by the Bearcats.

Lander finished the contest shooting 42.9 percent from the field and out-rebounded the Braves, 44-37, as Breshay Johnson and Aarika Judge tallied double-digit scoring with 14 and 11 points, respectively, while Bre Crum, Portia McCray and Johnson shared a team-high eight boards.

UNCP will be back in action again on December 15 following finals week to conclude its three-game road stand against Chowan (1-6) inside the Helms Center. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
