PEMBROKE – Visiting Armstrong Atlantic rallied back from a 13-point halftime deficit and held the UNC Pembroke men's basketball team to a season-low 33.3 percent success rate from the field to help the Pirates avenge a 22-point loss earlier this season with an 84-83 overtime win over the Braves on Saturday afternoon in the English E. Jones Center.

The setback dropped the Braves (13-9, 4-8 PBC) ½ game of Francis Marion for fourth place in the PBC East Division Standings, while Armstrong Atlantic (6-13, 3-9) climbed back into the race for a spot in the PBC Tournament in March. The top four teams from both the PBC's East and West Divisions will earn berths into the event.

Quamain Rose scored a team-best 30 points and registered six rebounds and a trio of assists to pace the offense for UNCP, who also got 20 points from Brandon Winford and 10 from Jihad Wright. Ben Jacobs posted career highs in both rebounds (13) and assists (7) for the Black & Gold as well.

Emmanuel Tiluscar posted a career- and game-best 39 points for the Pirates on 13-of-21 shooting, while Hichem Benayad-Cherif turned in 23 points of his own. Kyle Callanan turned in a game-high 10 assists, while Darius Morales came off the bench to record 11 rebounds, for the Pirates as well.

The game was a part of UNCP's Play 4Kay celebration which raised more than $1,600 for breast cancer research.

"Give them credit, their defense was good and their game plan was good," said UNCP head coach Ben Miller. "They doubled our big guys and we didn't handle that very well, and we also struggled from the perimeter. We have to understand that, even when shots aren't falling, hopefully we can still do enough at the defensive end."

Armstrong Atlantic used a 9-0 run early in the second half to trim a 13-point halftime deficit down to just two points, 46-44, on Shema Sabiiti's short jumper at the 14:40 mark. The Braves answered with a 9-2 run to push the lead back out to nine points, 57-48, on a pair of free throws by Keysheen Hinton at the 10:09 mark, but the Pirates tied the score up on Tiluscar's layup with 1:41 to play.

Rose gave the hosts a short-lived lead on a jumper with 89 seconds left, but Benayad-Cherif pulled the visitors even with UNCP on the ensuing trip down the court. Griffin Pittman had a chance to win it for the Braves in regulation, but missed both ends of a two-shot foul with five ticks left.

The Pirates shot 3-for-4 from the field in extra time and nearly shot themselves in the foot with four seconds left when Darius Morales was called for a technical foul for taunting.

The Braves shot 40 percent from the field in the opening stanza and used 20 points from Rose, as well as a 13-4 run late in the period, to lug a 44-31 advantage into the halftime break.

The Braves will be back in action again on Thursday when they head to Florence, S.C., for a key PBC intra-divisional matchup with Francis Marion (7-11, 4-8) in the Smith University Center. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
