PEMBROKE – All-American Jordan Edgerton hit a pair of homers and doubled twice to highlight a perfect 5-for-5 day at the plate as the 14th-ranked UNC Pembroke baseball team completed a weekend sweep of Pitt-Johnstown with a 19-4 victory over the Mountain Cats on Monday at Sammy Cox Field.

The win kept the Braves (6-0) perfect through six games – the fourth-straight season that the club has swept through the first two weekends. Pitt-Johnstown (0-3) fell to 0-7 all-time against the Black & Gold.

Edgerton matched career highs in both hits and home runs, but established new personal bests in both doubles and RBI (7). Four other Braves turned in a pair of hits, including Zade Denton (2-for-3) and Ben Schmucker (2-for-4) who both drove in a pair of runs as well.

All-American Jake Warner walked and singled three times to lead Pitt-Johnstown. Dillon Boyer and Ernesto Rizzitano both registered a pair of hits for the Mountain Cats as well.

Connor Pratt (2-0) struck out three and scattered six hits across four innings of work to pick up the victory in a pre-determined pitching rotation. Nate Pope (0-1) saddled the loss for UPJ after allowing seven earned runs on six hits and a pair of walks in 2-2/3 innings from the bump. He also struck out two.

Pitt-Johnstown scratched the scoreboard for a pair of runs in the top of the first to grab its first lead of the weekend, but UNCP plated two in the bottom of the frame, and then added five more in the third to take the lead for good. The Black & Gold would go on to tally four additional multi-run frames, including a 5-run eighth inning.

The Braves will embark on a four-game road trip this weekend when they open up Peach Belt Conference play with a three-game set at Columbus State (3-4, 0-0 PBC). The squads will open up the weekend with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday at Ragsdale Field.
