Young Harris Inches Past Men's Basketball In Final Minutes, 83-76

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. –
Young Harris scored 17 points in the final four minutes of regulation and shot 47.5 percent from the field to charge past the UNC Pembroke men's basketball team, 83-76, on Saturday in Peach Belt Conference action in YHC Basketball Arena.

The loss marked the fourth in the month of February for UNCP (14-13, 5-12 PBC), while Young Harris (14-7, 8-6) extended its winning streak to two games.

Junior Ben Jacobs posted the solo double-double for the Braves with 12 points and 12 rebounds, six on both the offensive and defensive boards, while guard Griffin Pittman tallied a team-best 18 points. Brandon Winford and Quamain Rose drained 13 and 12 points, respectively, with Rose dishing out eight assists and grabbing five steals. Alex Bradley also registered seven assists. UNCP finished the contest with 44 rebounds and a 36.2 field goal shooting percentage.

Young Harris had five players notch more than 10 points with bench player C.J. Wilson collecting 21 points and eight assists in the process. Kevin Altidor had 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Sam Watson led the team with 15 rebounds to help the Mountain Lions finished the contest with 46 boards. Isaiah Johnson, Steve Viterbo and Tony Raymond added 14, 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Braves forced Young Harris to turn the ball over 19 times and gained 24 points off those turnovers. The lead changes seven times and resulted in eight tied scores throughout the 40 minutes of play with UNCP holdings its largest lead of eight points with 16:05 remaining in the game.

The Black and Gold utilized an eight point run to catch Young Harris and enter into the half at a 36-36 stand before opening up the half on a 10-2 run for an eight point lead in the second stanza. Despite another tied score on the layup by Winford at the 4:04 mark, Young Harris used a 12-0 run and held UNCP scoreless for over two minutes to solidify the seven point victory.

UNCP will make the trip to St. Augustine, Fla., on Saturday to take on PBC East Division foe Flagler (10-12, 4-11) in a 3:30 p.m. matchup inside Flagler gymnasium.
