YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The UNC Pembroke women's basketball team used a stellar perimeter attack to turn back one of the top teams in the Peach Belt Conference West Division, Young Harris, 66-56, on Sunday afternoon in the YHC Basketball Arena.

The Lady Braves (9-15, 5-12 PBC) opened the second half with a slight 28-26 advantage over the Mountain Lions (16-5, 11-3). The game remained closed until Kamille Horne drained back-to-back treys as UNCP pulled ahead by seven, 47-40, just before the midway point. The Black and Gold remained in control, staying in front of Young Harris until the end buzzer. The final minute of the game saw UNCP take six trips to the charity stripe, as the Lady Braves made six-consecutive free throw shots to earn the 10-point victory, 66-56.

Young Harris jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead in the first half, but a 3-point bucket from Horne brought the score to 10-10 at the 12:28 mark. Both teams battled through the opening half, which saw six ties in the first 15 minutes. A triple from Ashley McCray, followed by another 3-pointer from Horne sparked an 8-1 UNCP run with less than three minutes before intermission, but the Mountain Lions would score the next five points before halftime.

"I'm really proud of our girls and the way we played coming off of a tough loss yesterday. I thought we competed the whole game, executed well offensively and made some shots," said UNCP head coach John Haskins.  "We shot the 3-point ball very well, and defensively we were pretty solid. Jazmine Kemp had a great game and Kamille Horne shot the ball well, overall it was a good road win against a very good team."

UNCP finished the day shooting 47.4 percent (9-of-19) from the perimeter, while holding Young Harris to just 8.3 percent (1-of-12) shooting from downtown. Kemp turned in a double-double, including a game-high 23 points matched with 10 rebounds. Horne chipped in 16 points on 5-of-9 (55.5 percent) from 3-point territory, as Kierra Haney added another 12 points for the Black and Gold.

Lauren Smith tallied 21 points for the Mountain Lions and Ladondra Johnson contributed a double-double with 14 points and 18 boards. Young Harris got another double-digit points performance from Peyton Robertson who logged 10 points on a 55.6 percent (5-of-9) success rate from the floor.

The Lady Braves return to the court next Saturday as the squad travels to St. Augustine, Fla., to face off with Flagler (9-13, 7-8) at 1:30 p.m. in the Flagler Gymnasium
