Box Score 2 RELATED: No. 15 North Georgia Completes Sweep With Seventh Inning Score
DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The visiting UNC Pembroke softball team was held to just one hit and scored its only run in the fourth inning in the first game of the Peach Belt Conference twinbill as No.15 North Georgia captured the 9-1 win in five innings at "The Hill."
The loss gave UNCP (17-14, 5-4 PBC) its second-straight defeat, while the victory for North Georgia (29-8, 9-2) was its four-consecutive win.
Sophomore Caitlin Steel tallied the solo hit for the Lady Braves in the opening inning as she chopped the ball to left field to reach base. The Concord native also crossed home plate in the fourth inning as she reached on an error and gave the Black and Gold its only run as she came home on a wild pitch.
Kim McMillan led the Night Hawks as she went 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, while three others tallied two hits apiece to assist the team in logging its 11 hits during the game. Taylor Anne Merritt also scored twice as five runners crossed home plate.
Senior Natalie Klemann (10-5) suffered the loss after going two innings and giving up four runs (three earned) on five hits including the leadoff homerun in the third, before being relieved by fellow senior Katy Austin for the final two innings. Austin allowed five earned runs on six hits and one walk.
Courtney Poole (14-7) grabbed the win for North Georgia as she struck out eight including one in each inning and four-straight to finish out the game.
The Night Hawks notched runs in each of the five innings including three runs in the fourth and two in both the second and third innings.
