PEMBROKE – The 23rd-ranked UNC Pembroke baseball team pounded out 18 hits and scored 15 times behind a solid outing from right-hander Andy Sullivan as the Braves avoided a weekend sweep with a 15-4 pounding of visiting GRU Augusta on Sunday afternoon at Cox Field.

The triumph gave UNCP (33-17, 17-13 PBC) a win in its regular season finale for the fifth-straight year, while also helping the Braves finish off a 19-8 home campaign. The win snapped a two-game win streak for GRU Augusta (19-31, 11-19).

Zade Denton doubled twice and scored four times on a 4-for-5 outing to pace the Braves, while Daniel Fraga tripled in a pair of runs to highlight a 4-for-6 day at the plate. Connor Gilbert homered for the first time this season to key a 2-for-4 outing with three RBI for the visitors.

Sullivan (7-1) struck out three over seven strong innings from the hill and grabbed the win after scattering 10 hits and three earned runs. Frank Warren (4-7) yielded six earned runs on eight hits in just two innings of work to saddle the loss for the Jaguars.

GRU Augusta strung together four hits and scored three times to take a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, but the GRUA's momentum came to a screeching halt after that outburst. The Braves plated four runs of their own in the bottom of the frame to grab the lead and had padded the advantage out to 13-3 before the Jags provided any kind of answer.

Gilbert hit a two-out solo homer in the eighth to interrupt the bleeding, but the Black & Gold scored twice more in the bottom of the eighth to provide the final.

UNCP has secured the No. 5 seed in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament which will take place May 10-11 in Aiken, S.C. The Black & Gold will battle either Georgia College or USC Aiken in the first round. Pairings are expected to be announced by the league office next weekend.
