PEMBROKE – The 15th-ranked UNC Pembroke baseball team scored eight runs in the sixth inning to break open an otherwise close game as the Braves forged a series split with Coker on an 11-2 rout of the Cobras on Wednesday evening at Sammy Cox Field.

The victory snapped a two-game skid for the Braves (28-12) who also put a stop to a two-game series losing streak to the Cobras as well. It was the third loss in the last five outings for Coker (20-17).

All-American Jordan Edgerton registered a double and a grand slam to highlight a 2-for-4 night at the plate, but the junior from Mount Holly was one of six Braves on the night to turn in multi-hit outings. Dalton Knight doubled twice and scored once on a 3-for-5 night, while Max Gagnon tallied a 3-for-4 hitting line with a pair of runs scored.

Five different players recorded base hits for the Cobras, including Ernie Kirkwood who hit a solo home run in the ninth.

Lumberton native Alex Britt (2-1) struck out a season-best five batters and allowed just three hits and a lone earned run over a season-long six innings of work to pick up the win for UNCP. Forrest Arnold (3-2) took the loss for Coker after allowing seven runs (six earned) on nine hits and a pair of walks in 5-1/3 innings from the mound.

UNCP used a two-run single from Drew Cole and a RBI double from Edgerton to grab a 3-0 lead in the third inning, but Coker cut into its deficit in the fourth on a two-out RBI single from Fico Kondla. The Black & Gold would break things wide open in the decisive eighth, however, sending 12 batters to the plate en route to logging eight runs on seven hits and an untimely fielding error.

Britt retired the first 10 hitters he faced before yielding three singles, as well as a run, in the fourth. He would retire the next seven batters he faced before giving way to Brandon Estrain to start the seventh.

The Braves will open up a six-game Peach Belt Conference road trip this weekend when they travel to Florence for a three-day weekend series against I-95 rival Francis Marion (21-17, 7-13 PBC). The squads will open up the series with a 6 p.m. tilt on Friday at Sparrow Stadium.
