PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke women's soccer team got goals from six different players and assists from two others en route to a 7-0 blanking of visiting Emmanuel on Sunday afternoon at Varsity Grounds.
The victory wrapped up an impressive 2-1-0 home stand for the Braves (4-1-1) who were facing the Lions (1-4-0) for the first time. The Black & Gold is now 3-1 in Pembroke this season.
Savanna Stiles and Rae-Shawna Campbell each logged a trio of assists for UNCP who scored three times in each half, while also benefitting from a first-half own goal. Amber Watkins recorded a goal and an assist as well. Three different players saw action in goal for the hosts, including Quay Mills who registered a pair of saves in just more than 10 minutes of playing time.
Jasmine Senécal-Guzman, Alexis Hurd and Amber Watkins each scored in the opening 20 minutes of the contest to help UNCP stake claim to an early 3-0 lead, but the Black & Gold lugged a 4-0 advantage into the break courtesy of an own goal from Emmanuel. Katie Watkins and Courtney Crump each scored less than three minutes apart in the opening moments of the second period, and Cassie DeQueiroz capped the scoring on the day on a header off of a corner kick in the 76th tick.
The Braves will be back in action again on Tuesday when they head to Misenheimer for a matinee contest at Pfeiffer (3-3-0). Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
