MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The visiting UNC Pembroke women's basketball team collected 18 points on Montevallo's 16 turnovers to seize the Peach Belt Conference road victory, 59-48, over the Falcons on Saturday afternoon inside the Trustmark Arena.

The Braves (4-9, 2-4 PBC) grabbed their second win the in the month of January and third outing in the last four, while Montevallo (1-12, (0-6) suffered its seventh-consecutive loss.

Leading the way for the Braves in scoring was senior Jazmine Kemp with 14 points and seven rebounds along with a team best seven assists and three steals. Junior Mary Robinson and senior Kamille Horne also notched double-digit scoring with 11 and 10 points, respectively, as Robinson was 3-for-4 from the floor and Horne drained a pair of treys. Sophomore Katelyn Mitchell finished the game with eight points, and forward Phoenicia Lawson came off the bench to led the team in rebounding with eight.

"I thought that we played fairly well defensively," said UNCP head coach John Haskins. "We gave up some second chance points in the first half, but recovered and played well in the second half. We did a good job and it is always nice to get a road win in the PBC."

Despite being out rebounds, 42-36, UNCP shot 30.0 percent from the arc and went 15-of-19 from the charity stripe. Montevallo tallied a better field goal percent in the contest, but only saw 13 points from bench players compared to UNCP's 27.

Kemp gave UNCP the first points of the game on a layup, but Montevallo kept close with the Braves through the first 12 minutes with its sixth tied score at the 8:14 mark. However, UNCP used a team effort to post a 9-2 run over the next six minutes for a seven point lead and entered into the locker room with a 30-23 score.

Embarking on the final 20 minutes, Montevallo tried to cut the lead with the opening points of the second half, but a pair of three-pointers and a jumper by Kemp kept the Falcons wanting. UNCP eventually extended its lead to 17 points with less than nine minutes until the final buzzer as the Braves used a 12-2 run throughout six minutes in the second stanza to hold onto the 11-point win.

Montevallo's Jacquelyn Thompson registered 17 points, while Katherine Goldsby and Jasmine Thomas added 14 and 10 points, respectively, as Goldsby was the only player to collected a double-double in the game as she pulled down 12 rebounds.

The Braves will be back in action on Wednesday with a 5:30 p.m. battle against PBC foe Francis Marion (5-9, 3-3) in Florence, S.C. inside the Smith University Center. For ticket information click HERE.
