The result gave the Braves (6-12, 4-7 PBC) consecutive losses for the first time since mid-December, while also marking the fewest points for the club since a 64-46 home loss to Georgia College on December 20. The triumph marked the second-straight victory for the Jaguars (4-14, 3-8) who notched a home win for just the second time in seven tries this season.
Jazmine Kemp scored 12 points on 6-of-11 shooting to pace the Braves who shot just 26.9 percent (7-for-26) in the second half. Camille Gee tallied a game-best 18 points for GRU Augusta, while Kariel Hutt notched her eighth double-double of the season with 13 points and as many rebounds.
A short jumper by Airico Williams just 13 seconds into the second period helped the visitors pad their advantage out to seven points, 28-21, but a pair of free throws by Gee at the 16:50 mark ignited an 18-4 run for the hosts who eventually took a 41-34 lead on Gee's 3-pointer with 9:22 left to play. The Black & Gold got to within three points on Avae' Hardy's free throw with less than five minutes remaining, but the Jaguars scored seven-straight points to pad their advantage out to double-digits, 52-42 on Hutt's jumper just more than two minutes later.
The first half featured four lead changes and two tie scores, but the Braves led by as much as six points, 26-20, on another layup by Williams with 86 seconds left before the intermission. UNCP would eventually haul a 26-21 advantage into the break after Hutt missed the back end of a two-shot foul with 23 seconds left.
The Braves will be back in action again on Saturday when they return home to battle PBC East rival Flagler (5-13, 2-9) as part of Military Appreciation Day inside the English E. Jones Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
