Johnson Garners AstroTurf/PBC Freshman Of The Week

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

AUGUSTA, Ga. – For the first time in her career, freshman Jamie Johnson clinched the weekly Peach Belt Conference's Softball Freshman of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon following a stellar week at the plate.

Johnson, a Kenly native, helped lead the offensive charge for the Braves during the week and went 8-for-12 to help extend her current hitting streak to 11 games. The third baseman was perfect from the plate hitting 3-for-3 in UNCP's 2-1 victory over Chowan and added an RBI and a pair of stolen bases in the contest.

She snatched up five stolen bases on five attempts, while hitting .667, slugging .750 and putting up a .692 on-base percentage. Johnson leads the Black and Gold with her .405 batting average and ranks second on the team in runs driven in.

The award marked the second time this season that a Brave has been named Freshman of the Week with Taylor Gerhart earning the laurel in February.

The Braves will hit the road for a 10-game road trip starting on Wednesday when the Black and Gold make the short trip up U.S. 74 for a 1 p.m. doubleheader against St. Andrews (6-16) in Laurinburg.
