Box Score PEMBROKE – Ben Schmucker's RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh helped the UNC Pembroke baseball team stake claim to a late 7-5 lead, but ninth-ranked Erskine sent its entire order to the plate in a 4-run eighth en route to 10-5 win over the Braves on Tuesday afternoon at Sammy Cox Field.
Wiley Jackson (3-for-4) singled three times on four trips to the plate to pace the Braves (17-7), while Schmucker finished his day with a 2-for-4 hitting line. Drew Cole singled in a pair of runs and scored once on a 1-for-4 outing for the hosts as well.
Brandon Overstreet homered, drove in four runs and scored three times on a 3-for-6 day for the Flying Fleet (22-2) who have now won 11 of their last 12 outings. Joey Wilson (3-for-5, 2B) and Alex Garland (3-for-4, R) both registered 3-hit days for the visitors as well.
Reliever Daniel Batts (1-1) allowed five hits and four earned runs in a short relief stint in the seventh to take the loss for the Braves. Erskine utilized six pitchers in the outing, with reliever Joe Johnson (2-0) grabbing the victory despite registering just the final out in the seventh.
Cole's two-run single in the bottom of the second put the Braves out in front 2-0, but Erskine used an ill-timed wild pitch to plate the tying run in the fifth, and then tacked up two more runs in the sixth to take a 4-2 advantage. Collins Cuthrell, Zade Denton and Schmucker all had RBI knocks in the seventh to help the Braves retake the lead.
