PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke baseball team recorded a season-best 25 hits and used a pair of big innings to finish off a season sweep of Coker with a 20-5 rout of the visiting Cobras on Tuesday evening at Sammy Cox Field.

Ten different players registered at least one base hit for the Braves (21-7), including Chad Whitehead who doubled, homered and drove in four runs on a perfect 5-for-5 plate tally. Collins Cuthrell (3-for-5) matched a six-year-old school record with his 16th home run of the season, with Christian Snider (2-for-3, BB) and Billy Vaughn (4-for-5) homering for the Black & Gold as well.

Jack Leech and Tyler Osik both recorded 3-for-4 nights at the plate to pace Coker (9-17).

Logan Cook (4-1) struck out three and allowed just one hit in two shutout innings of relief to grab the win for the Braves. Korbin Causey (0-2) surrendered 10 earned runs on 13 hits in 3-1/3 innings from the hill to take the loss for the visitors.

Coker rallied back from a 5-2 deficit with three runs in the top of the fourth inning, but the Braves exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the fourth, and then put the game away with five more scores in the fifth. Emmitt Herring's run-scoring single with two outs in the eighth would cap the scoring on the night.

UNCP will step back into Peach Belt Conference play this weekend when they suit up to host Young Harris (10-18, 7-11) in a three-game set at Sammy Cox Field. The squads will open up the weekend with a 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon doubleheader, and then close out the set with a 1 p.m. single game on Sunday.
