PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke baseball team engineered its 24th double-digit attack of the season to help support a solid outing from right-hander Connor Pratt as the Braves finished off a weekend sweep of visiting Young Harris with an 8-1 win on Sunday afternoon at Varsity Grounds.

The triumph marked the 10th win in the last 12 outings for UNCP (24-7, 12-6 PBC) who has now turned in three league series sweeps (Columbus State, Georgia Southwestern) this season as well. Young Harris (10-21, 7-14) fell to 0-9 all-time against the Black & Gold with the setback.

Drew Cole singled three times and stole a pair of bases to highlight a 3-for-4 day at the plate, while Collins Cuthrell walked and homered to support a 2-for-3 hitting line. Dalton Knight drove in a run and scored twice on a 2-for-5 performance, while Billy Vaughn homered on a 1-for-4 hitting line for the hosts as well.

Nick Sexton and Blake Suggs both tallied 2-for-4 outings to lead the Mountain Lions.

Pratt (4-1) struck out four and scattered five hits across six innings of work to pick up the win for the Braves, and was just a sun-aided hit away from yielding any runs in the outing as well. Southpaw Justin Cooper (3-4) surrendered eight earned runs on nine hits and four walks en route to being tagged with the loss for Young Harris. He also struck out four.

A sun-aided leadoff double and a RBI groundout in the fourth helped the Mountain Lions take their first lead of the weekend in the second, but the Braves struck for four runs of their own in the third to take a lead they would not relinquish. The Black & Gold would add four insurance runs in the bottom of the fourth to cap the scoring.

UNCP will open up a five-game road trip on Tuesday when it makes the short trip up U.S. 74 to battle region rival Wingate (21-12) in a 6 p.m. contest at Ron Christopher Stadium.
