ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Third-ranked Flagler pounded out a season-best 20 hits and scored 18 times behind a solid outing from right-hander Mike O'Reilly as the Saints clinched their weekend series with the sixth-ranked UNC Pembroke baseball team on an 18-5 win over the Braves on Saturday evening.
Drew Cole hit his first home run of the season and scored twice to highlight a 3-for-5 night at the plate for the Braves (14-4, 4-4 PBC), while Collins Cuthrell slugged his 12th home run of the season and finished the night with a 1-for-4 hitting line. Drew Beaver drove in a run on a perfect 2-for-2 showing for the visitors as well.
Flagler (16-2, 9-1) got three or more hits from four different players, including Kolin McMillen who walked, doubled twice and drove in four runs on a 4-for-4 showing.
Garrett Hickman (2-2) surrendered eight runs (six earned) in just 1-2/3 innings from the mound to saddle the loss for UNCP who eventually used five other arms in the outing. O'Reilly (4-1) struck out eight and scattered eight hits and five earned runs over eight innings of work to grab the win for the Saints.
Flagler scored four runs in each of the first two innings and led 12-1 by the end of the fourth. The Braves cut into their deficit on Cuthrell's 3-run bomb in the fifth, but Flagler answered with six runs in the bottom of the sixth to put the game away.
The squads will close out their weekend series with a single game on Sunday at Drysdale Field. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
