Box Score INDIANAPOLIS – A run of success that has seen it win 22 of its last 29 games continued to pay dividends for the UNC Pembroke baseball team on Wednesday as the Braves held tight to the No. 4 position in the latest NCAA Southeast Region Rankings.
The top 5 remained relatively unchanged in the listing as Catawba (38-10) and North Georgia (33-13) held on to the Nos. 1 and 2 position, respectively. Columbus State (34-13) leapt up two spots to No. 3, while the Braves (36-12) follow closely behind. Mount Olive (35-14) slipped two spots to No. 5, while USC Aiken (33-14) made its debut in the poll at No. 6.
Flagler (32-14) remained static in the No. 7 spot, as did Armstrong State (29-12) at No. 8.
The NCAA listing, unlike the weekly listing by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), is relied on heavily in selecting the 48 teams, as well as eight regional sites, that will comprise the NCAA Division II Baseball Championships next month. The top six teams from each region will compete, May 14-17, for a chance to advance to the NCAA Division II Baseball Championships, May 23-30, in Cary.
Two teams have already secured berths into the NCAA postseason as automatic qualifiers. North Greenville (29-23) locked up a spot in the six-team NCAA Southeast Regional field by winning the Conference Carolinas Tournament, while Wingate (32-21) punched their ticket to the postseason by winning the South Atlantic Conference Tournament.
