Spirit Squad Comes Out On Top In Hurricane Matthew Relief Drive

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke spirit squad collected nearly 550 items to highlight the athletic department's effort in a campus-wide relief drive that was spawned by the UNCP chapter of the Association of Nursing Students.

The relief drive, which ran from November 8-22, was organized to help uplift and support the Robeson County community by providing a donation of non-perishable items along with hygiene products for the holiday season. The athletics department responded by collecting more than 1,500 items.

Each of UNCP's 17 varsity athletic programs, as well as its spirit squad and administrative staff, conducted an internal contest to see who could collect the most items. The spirit squad led the way to receive a gift basket donated by ANS, as well as a Bojangle's Tailgate Party. The football team finished a close runner-up after collecting nearly 500 items.
