PEMBROKE – Concord plated a pair of runs in the top of the first to take an early lead, but the UNC Pembroke baseball team pounded out 16 hits and scored 17 times to finish off a weekend sweep of the Mountain Lions with a 17-5 rout on Sunday afternoon at Sammy Cox Field.

Eleven different players registered at least one base hit for the Braves (5-0), including junior Drew Beaver who doubled, homered and scored three times to highlight a 3-for-6 day at the plate. Newcomer Hayden Buffkin singled three times and scored twice on six trips to the plate, while Justin Dattilo doubled and scored three runs on a 2-for-3 hitting line.

Andrew Seigel (2 R) and Holt Cassada both finished 2-for-3 to lead Concord (0-3).

Senior Logan Cook (1-0) picked up his first of the season after allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and a trio o walks. He also struck out a pair. Concord starter Damon Frazier (0-1) was tagged with the loss for the Mountain Lions after yielding eight runs (six earned) on seven hits in just two innings from the hill.

Adam Szamski doubled in a pair of runs with two outs in the first to help the Mountain Lions light up the scoreboard first, but the Braves rallied for six runs in the bottom of the frame and led 16-3 by the end of the fifth. Concord sliced into its deficit with a pair of sac flies in the seventh, but Beaver doubled in the eighth and later scored on CU's sixth error of the contest to provide the final.

The Black & Gold will continue a season-opening 15-game homestand on Wednesday when it battles Pfeiffer (1-5) in a 3 p.m. contest at Sammy Cox Field.
