FERRUM, Va. – A swimmer clad in a Black & Gold cap touched the wall first in eight of the 11 events on Friday evening to fuel a pair of UNC Pembroke swimming victories against host-Ferrum and Greensboro by scores of 111-53 and 110-45, respectively.
The triumphs at the Swartz Gym Pool push the Braves' winning streak to a program-record seven, while UNCP hasn't dropped a meet since Oct. 21 at Barton.
Freshman Megan Hunter logged a pair of victories in the 200-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle to pace the Black & Gold. Swimming in her home state, the Chesterfield native touched in 2:15.07 in the 200-free and 5:49.08 in the 500-free. Hunter picked up a third-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:35.43.
Karina Ramosbarbosa notched a victory in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:05.42 and added a runner-up finish in the 50-yard freestyle (29.67). Fellow freshman Abigail Wood registered her team-best seventh event win of the season in the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:23.26 and also grabbed a runner-up effort in the 200-yard individual medley (2:30.17).
Junior
Kelsey Williams touched first in the 50-yard freestyle in 28.63 seconds, while freshman Selena Rodriguez logged a victory in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:53.56. Victoria Brousseau picked up a runner-up finish in the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:57.52.
A pair of UNCP relay teams claimed victory on Friday, as the foursome of Wood, Rodriguez,
Sonyaliz Goveo and Brousseau won the 200-yard medley relay in 2:04.64 and the squad of Goveo, Brousseau, Ramosbarbosa and Williams touched first in the 200-yard free relay in 1:54.16.
The Braves will stay the night in Virginia and take on Sweet Briar and Pfeiffer in a tri-meet on Saturday. Action gets underway at 1 p.m. at the Prothro Natatorium on the Sweet Briar campus.
