Women’s Basketball Falls To Augusta In Overtime Thriller

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Sophomore Aliyah Farmer's lay in with 6.1 seconds to play in regulation put the UNC Pembroke women's basketball team up by two, but host Augusta knotted the game at 65-65 with a layup of their own with under two seconds to play and outscored the Braves by six in overtime to snap a 13-game losing streak on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Box Score/Play-by-Play

FIRST QUARTER
-Neither team led by more than three in a low-scoring first quarter that went scoreless after a 3-pointer put Augusta up 15-12 with 2:53 on the clock.

SECOND QUARTER
-Augusta scored the first five points of the period to take a 20-12 lead and led by as many as nine before the Braves closed the half on a 10-0 run to haul a 27-26 lead into the locker rooms.

THIRD QUARTER
-Avery Locklear rolled in a layup with 47 ticks showing to cap off a 6-0 UNCP run that gave the Black & Gold its largest lead of the game at 52-45.
-Augusta's Joshlyn Belcher knocked down one of her four 3-pointers with 11 seconds to play to bring the Jaguars back within four with 10 minutes to play.

FOURTH QUARTER
-The Braves led for all but 48 seconds until Jahima Bradley hit one of her four long balls with 1:09 to play to bring the game even at 63-63.
-Farmer's layup put UNCP up 65-63 with 6.1 seconds to play before Ashleigh Outler used a spin move to get an open look at the basket and force overtime with her lone two-point basket of the game.

OVERTIME
-With the game tied at 68-68, Augusta's Belcher knocked down a 3-pointer with 2:40 to play that put the Jaguars up by three and the hosts made four free throws in the final 15 seconds to ice the game.

NOTABLES
-UNCP's 45.2-percent mark from the field is its third-best shooting performance of the season, but second loss when shooting at least 45 percent from the field.
-Augusta's 14 long balls surpassed its previous season high of 10 and the Jaguars 51.9-percent (14-for-27) clip from deep was their second best of the campaign.
-The Braves held advantages in overall shooting percentage (45.2-43.3), free throw percentage (72.7-62.5), rebounds (40-30), points off turnovers (11-9), bench points (31-7), points in the paint (28-22) and fast break points (8-6).
-Farmer's 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting is a career-high for the sophomore, who played a career-best 36 minutes in the setback.
-Senior Nyla Allen notched her fourth double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 rebounds and has now scored at least 10 points in 16-straight games.

UP NEXT
The Braves return home for the first time in 11 days when Young Harris invades Pembroke on Saturday. Tipoff is slated for 1:30 p.m. on the front end of a women's-men's doubleheader at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court. UNCP and Young Harris met way back on Dec. 2 in what was both sides' first PBC game of the season. The Mountain Lions (8-15, 5-11 PBC) won the first meeting 61-59, but both teams are currently tied for eighth in the PBC race.
