No. 29 Baseball Completes Sweep Of Winston-Salem State

PEMBROKE – The 29th-ranked UNC Pembroke baseball team pounded out 15 hits, including three with the bases loaded, and scored nine runs across their last two at-bats on the way to a 15-6 victory over Winston-Salem State on Saturday afternoon at Sammy Cox Field.

The result gave UNCP (17-5) its fourth series sweep of the season, while also helping the Black & Gold improve to 13-1 in Pembroke in 2018. The Rams (16-10) have now dropped three-straight games for the first time since early February.

Seth Hartings (2-for-4, HR) and Kevon Perkins (2-for-3, 2 BB) drove in four runs apiece to lead the Braves, while Ethan Baucom doubled to highlight a 3-for-5 day at the plate. Three other players turned in multiple hits as well for the hosts.

Brandon Ford doubled three times and scored twice on a 4-for-5 hitting line for the Rams, while Wellington Guzman hit a pair of doubles on four trips to the plate.

Gunner Deal (4-1) struck out four and scattered three hits across four innings of relief to register his fourth win of the campaign. Tyrese Hearst (3-1) allowed four earned runs on as many hits in two innings of relief to saddle the loss for the visitors.

The lead changed hands three times in the fourth and fifth innings, but a towering 3-run homer by Hartings sparked a 4-run seventh inning that put the Braves in front for good. UNCP sent its entire order to the plate on the way to tacking up five insurance runs in the eighth as well.

UNCP will close out a short two-game home stand on Tuesday when they host Barton (9-20) in a 6 p.m. contest at Sammy Cox Field.
