No. 24 Baseball Finishes Off Twinbill Sweep Of St. Augustine’s

PEMBROKE – The 24th-ranked UNC Pembroke baseball team tacked up its 21st double-digit hit attack of the season and hit a pair of grand slams in the sixth inning to fuel a 20-4 rout of St. Augustine's and complete a doubleheader sweep of the Falcons on Tuesday afternoon at Sammy Cox Field.

The victory marked the 20th home win of the season for the Braves (24-9) who have now won 34-straight games in the series with St. Augustine's. The Falcons (11-20) fell to 2-10 away from Raleigh this season with the setback.

Luke Jackson hit one of two grand slams in the sixth and drove in a career-best seven RBI on a perfect 3-for-3 day for the hosts, while Ethan Baucom clubbed the other grand slam in the frame to highlight a 1-for-3 performance. Roberto Rivera, Trevor Clemons and Jarratt Mobley all turned in 3-for-4 hitting lines for the Braves as well.

Brandon Bly, Cody Harris and Carson Davis all tallied a pair of hits to lead the Falcons.

Jordan Toney (2-0) struck out four and surrendered just three runs across five innings of work to pick up the win for the Black & Gold. Deaunte Ford (0-1) suffered his first loss of the season for the visitors after allowing nine runs (seven earned) on 10 hits in just three innings from the mound.

The Braves scored at least one run in the first four innings, and padded their lead out to 12-2 on the shoulders of a 5-run fourth inning. The hosts would send 13 batters to the plate in the 8-run sixth, with Baucom and Jackson highlighting the inning with bombs to left field.

UNCP will step back into Peach Belt Conference play this weekend when it makes the short trip to Florence, S.C., to take on Francis Marion (12-23, 5-16 PBC) in a three-game series at Sparrow Stadium. The squads will open up the weekend with a 6 p.m. contest on Friday.
