Bianca Bateman shattered the 100-yard Freestyle school record by more than two seconds, while the 400-yard Freestyle Relay squad topped the previous program best by more than five seconds, to lead the UNC Pembroke swimming team to a third place finish at the Sun Coast Swimming Conference Championships on Saturday at the Orlando YMCA Aquatic Center.
The Braves accumulated 442 points over the course of the three-day event to post their best finish at the SCSC Championships in program history. Keiser topped the seven-team field with 863 points, while South Georgia State finished second with 672 points.
Bateman posted a time of 56.76 seconds in the 100-yard Freestyle to top teammate
Jaiden Estrada's previous school record (59.18) in the event which was established in the dual meet at Columbia on September 29. The 400-yard Freestyle Relay team – Bateman, Estrada,
Jaycie Knight,
Nadia Bent – touched the wall in 3:53.11 on the way to a fifth place finish in Saturday's final event. That time was more than five seconds faster than the previous school record that was set at last year's SCSC Championships.
