No. 5 North Georgia Rallies Late To Stun Softball In PBC Tournament

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Senior Alyssa Price hit a 3-run homer in the top of the sixth to give the UNC Pembroke softball team a late lead, but top-seeded and fifth-ranked North Georgia rallied for three runs in the bottom of the frame to stun the Braves, 7-5, in the quarterfinal round of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament on Friday evening.
 
The setback concluded the 2019 campaign for the Braves (22-27) who were making their first appearance at the PBC Tournament since a run to the semifinal round in 2016. The Saints (40-11) advance to Saturday's semifinal round where they will face either the winner of Friday's late game between Flagler and Georgia College.

KEY INNINGS
TOP 1 Rendi Wetherington drew a full-count walk to lead off the game, and moved to third on a sac bunt and a passed ball. Jordan Adcox's sac fly to deep right field gave UNCP the early advantage.
BOT 1 North Georgia took advantage of two errors in the field to fuel a rally that eventually brought the tying run across the plate.
TOP 2 Alex Watkins crushed the first pitch of the inning down the left field line and over the fence to put the Braves back up, 2-1. 
BOT 5 Marley Stowers cranked a one-out double to center field and scored on a single from Kaylee Womack in the ensuing at-bat. The big inning continued with an infield single from Lexi Duncan, as well as a two-run double by Kali Turner that put North Georgia ahead, 4-2.
TOP 6  Back-to-back singles by Kaitlynn Norton and Tatum Brummitt put runners on base with two outs, and Alyssa Price cleared the bases with a bomb to centerfield to put UNCP back on top, 5-4.
BOT 6 Kaylyn Anthony hit a one-out double to the gap in right field, and Marley Stowers followed with a two-out double off of UNCP reliever Raygan Larson to even the score. Kaylee Womack followed with a RBI single up the middle to give the hosts the lead for good. Lexi Duncan's RBI single two batters later provided an insurance run.
