COLUMBIA, S.C. – Freshman
Ryan Smith posted a leap of 14.01 meters on the way to a third place finish in the Triple Jump to highlight action for the UNC Pembroke track & field team on the opening day of the South Carolina-hosted Gamecock Opener.
Smith's mark was fell less than a meter off of the pace of event champion Jalen Chance of Florida.
Jamar Adams also recorded a top-10 finish with an eighth-place finish in the 60-meter Dash, as did
Mat Maier with a 10
th-place performance in the 1-mile Run.
On the women's side,
Keionna Ray finished in 17
th place in the long jump with a mark of 4.93 meters.
The two teams combined for five personal-best marks in their first meet since December 7.
The Braves will return to Columbia, S.C., on Saturday for the final day of the Gamecock Opener. UNCP will close out its weekend competition on Sunday at the JDL January College Kick-off in Winston-Salem.
